Rental Revamp: All Style, No Commitment

Let's face it, buying a home right now is more challenging than it used to be. With both higher interest rates and housing prices, many people are opting to rent while hoping to eventually purchase and personalize their own homes.

I wanted to give you some hope and maybe a little inspiration to personalize your rental space and make it feel like your own. Here are some interior design tips to transform your rental from generic to a beautiful, personalized haven.

Paint If your rental agreement allows it, painting is the best way to transform a space without investing too much time or money. I am loving "Essence of Nightshade" by Backdrop—it's a stunning, rich purple with a semi-matte finish, perfect for a low-sheen, wipeable surface. For a luxurious, monochromatic look, consider painting the entire room, including walls, ceiling, trim, and doors. Essence of Nightshade

Window Treatments If painting isn't an option, but you still want to amp up your space, consider window treatments. Hang curtains just below the ceiling or crown molding, and go wider than the window - the wider, the better.  Pro-tip: make sure you have enough fabric for them to close! Add a bit of drama with wall-to-wall curtains. This effect can soften the room and make the ceilings appear taller.

Wallpaper I know, I know, it sounds too permanent for a rental. But you can use wallpaper creatively without committing to a full installation. Try using wallpaper panels as large pieces of art. Hanging one or multiple panels can evoke the feeling of large-scale artwork without the large-scale cost.

Lighting Ambient lighting can dramatically change a room's atmosphere. As a renter, you can go beyond table and floor lamps by incorporating wall-mounted sconces. You can wrap a pendant light around a wall mount arm or wire a sconce with a plug to add a beautiful, soft glow to your space.

Rugs A rug can really pull a room together, adding softness, comfort, and style. Rugs are available in various colors, patterns, and textures. I particularly like Annie Selkie's custom options, which allow you to size the rug to your room, whether it's for a small area or wall-to-wall coverage. Annie Selkie Custom Rugs

As a renter, you have plenty of design options to make your space feel like home, whether you're renting long-term or just until you're ready to buy your own place.

I’d love to see how you use these tips, so be sure to share a photo with me on social media.
